Rodney G. “Biggin’ ” Nutter

Rodney G. “Biggin’ ” Nutter, 80, of Gassaway, passed away March 25, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 16, 1938 in Clay County, a son of the late Joseph Dale and Iva Jane Workman Nutter.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Triplett Nutter; three brothers and four sisters.

For most of Rodney’s life he worked as a heavy equipment operator at Juliana Coal Company at Erbacon.  He also sawed the last log at the Swandale Saw Mill.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He was a gardener, canner, and cook.  Rodney was a “foodie”.  He enjoyed eating ramps and poke greens.  He sang bass in quartets.  The jokester in him was always enjoying life.    Rodney liked tinkering with things  and watching YouTube.  In the recent years he bought and refurbished antique bicycles and gave them to people to ride.  Rodney was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Sugar Creek Baptist Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Fox Nutter; son, Rocky Nutter and partner, Chuck Halstead; daughters, Vicki Parsons and husband, Mike, Melda Brown and husband, Eddie, Robin Belt and husband, David; brothers, Jennings Nutter and wife, Barbara, Joe Nutter and wife, Brenda; sister, Eva Crigger and husband, Bennie; granddaughter, Mary Lynne Hamric; special niece, Shelly Cottrill and husband, Dennis; great nephew, Tyler Cottrill; special friends, Nathan Clark and John Allen; fur babies, Sammy and Lucy.

Thank you to all those in the community that have helped.

Service will be 2 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Reverend Linn Schiefer officiating.  Interment will be in the Triplett Cemetery on Triplett Ridge, Clay.

Friends may call two hours prior to service at the funeral home.
