Robert A. “Bob” Stalnaker

Robert A. “Bob” Stalnaker, 68, of Gassaway, passed away peacefully in the early morning Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at home.

Bob was born March 31, 1950 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Henry Patrick and Elisabeth Andrick Stalnaker.

For 30 years Bob was the Medical Examiner and Coroner for Braxton and surrounding counties.  He was employed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Charleston, WV and Braxton County Memorial Hospital (BCMH).  While at BCMH he was a surgical technologist and surgical first assistant.  For a while he worked for Braxton County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy.  He was a former Emergency Medical Services (EMS) President and was the Gassaway Volunteer Fire Department Chief for three years.  Bob was a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts.  He was Scout Master of the Co-Ed Medical Explorer Scout Troop for 4 years and was so proud that many of his teenagers in the Co-Ed Scout Troop entered the health care field.  Bob also served his country for 10 years around the 1970’s in the Army and ended his career as a Staff Sergeant.  During his career he served two tours in  Vietnam and Germany.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Stalnaker Muncy.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan Waters Stalnaker of Gassaway; sister, Nancy Stalnaker Shobe of Buckhannon; daughter, Katherine Ann Stalnaker of Buckhannon; son, SSG Robert Allen Stalnaker of Ft. Irwin, CA; two granddaughters; 10 step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

Funeral Mass will be 11 A.M. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gassaway, with Father Thien Nguyen, SVD as Celebrant with a Rosary Service preceding at 10:15 A.M. at the church.  Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
